According to believable rumors, Ubisoft Montreal studio is developing its own version of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake from scratch. We can expect heavily revised graphics, gameplay, and even a script.
In 2022, the trouble-plagued Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake was transferred from the Indian branches of Ubisoft to the Ubisoft Montreal studio. Since then, the game has gone quiet. Last year we only found out that the production had been restarted.
Now, credible reports have appeared online about what this title will offer. According to them, we can forget about everything that has been shown from this remake so far. Ubisoft was supposed to begin the creative process from the beginning, getting rid of all elements produced by its predecessors.
The source of all this information is the Insider-Gaming site, run by a very highly-reputed insider, Tom Henderson. His previous track record of having reliable sources at Ubisoft gives credibility to his reports about Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. Henderson is certain that the information provided to him is true, as it was accompanied by video materials from an early version of the game (which he cannot make public).
All of this sounds intriguing. It seems that instead of just developing a beautified version of the classic, Ubisoft Montreal decided to go much further and create something that truly deserves the title of a remake. This is probably a good approach because Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has aged gracefully and is still a lot of fun today. Developing a refreshed version with only improved graphics was always a bit of a strange idea.
The Rogue Prince of Persia project is also reportedly being developed simultaneously, a two-dimensional platformer from the Evil Empire studio, responsible for the post-launch development of the outstanding Dead Cells. We should also not forget about the excellent Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown released in January this year. So it seems that after years of neglecting the Prince of Persia, Ubisoft has decided to give this brand the attention it deserves.
