GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition Launches; PlayStation Versions Unlocked
Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition is now available on PlayStation consoles. On the other hand, owners of other hardware platforms will start playing later today. A full list of changes and innovations compared to the original was also made available.
Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition, a collection containing refreshed versions of three classic games of Rockstar Games, launches today. The game will be released at 7 am PT. At least, this is what the devs claim, but many people on PS4 and PS5 already started playing.
The countdown to the release continues on PlayStation Store, but all indications are that the Sony console editions have been unlocked early for users with preorders. Owners of other platforms will have to be patient.
Today's launch applies to the digital version for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. On December 7, the boxed edition will be released, but it will not be available on PC. On the other hand, a mobile edition for iOS and Android is planned for release next year.
Rockstar Games also released a list of all the changes offered by the new release. We already knew about some of them, but there are also a few novelties.
News GTA The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition
Gameplay:
- A gamepad controls layout in the style of the one from GTA 5.
- Improved weapon and radio station selection menus for quick switching.
- Improved minimaps with easier navigation and a feature to mark waypoints.
- Improved aiming and shooting mechanics, and further improvements of shooting while driving in GTA: San Andreas.
- Instant restart option for failed missions.
- Updated Achievements and Trophies.
- New Achievements for Rockstar Social Club members.
Visuals:
- Higher resolution textures, which includes characters as well as objects and locations.
- New lighting system, including improved shadows and reflection effects.
- Improved environmental (e.g. water) and weather (e.g. rain and fog) effects. In addition, time of day changes are more pronounced.
- Increased detail in environmental objects such as buildings and vegetation.
- Increased draw distance.
New features only available on certain platforms
- 4K resolution at 60fps on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
- NVIDIA DLSS support on PC.
- Touchscreen responsive menus and gyroscopic targeting on Nintendo Switch.
Old cheats work in GTA The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition
As an interesting fact worth mentioning at the end that GTA The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition is said to support old cheats, activated by combinations of buttons on the gamepad. It can be seen, among others, in the extensive gameplay published by Zanar Aesthetics. However, after activating them it is impossible to unlock Achievements and Trophies, so the game asks if we really want to use them.
