How to Defeat the First Boss, Zhang Liang, in Wo Long Fallen Dynasty

Bosses are an integral part of soulslike games. Wo Long is no different. Here we describe and give tips on how to defeat the first boss - Zhang Liang.

In Wo Long Fallen Dynasty, you will encounter many threats on your path, including powerful opponents called bosses. The first one is Zhang Liang, General of Man, encountered in the Village of Calamity mission. Here are some tips to help you defeat him.

How to defeat the first boss – Zhang Liang?

At the very beginning, it is worth noting that you will have to defeat this boss twice because he has two phases. The first is much easier and lets you to familiarize yourself with the opponent's moves.

It will be a good idea to equip lighter weapons, such as a sword, because then you will be able to perform a whole combination of light attacks. Moreover, the boss won't take the initiative and will defend himself (unless he dodges or uses a powerful Fatal Blow).

Most of his attacks are made with his weapon. Usually, one parry is enough to go on the offensive. Watch out when he jumps into the air and throws his weapon into the ground to create a stone wave (you can deflect it).

Zhang has several attacks that will make him glow red. This means that he is about to use one of the moves that will deal you a lot of damage. However, you can use this technique against him, namely by parrying. If you parry at the right time, the boss will lose most of his stamina, allowing you to use Fatal Blow on him more often.

He has 3 attacks of this type: moving the weapon behind his back and then charging, swinging the weapon while running forward, and standing still to perform an uppercut with his weapon. Deflect those attacks to stun Zhang and make his Spirit meter decrease significantly.

Second phase of the first boss – Zhang Liang

In the middle of the second phase, the special attack called Divine Beast is unlocked. You can use it to end the fight in one move.

In the second phase, Zhang is much more difficult to stun, and thus, to defeat. His attacks gain range, but they will become slightly slower. You have to find a good moment to parry him. A great solution will be to look at the hand that is not holding the weapon. He will be using it much more often.

Zhang Liang will also gain new moves - the one where he glows red is especially dangerous. Typically, he will want to move a little further away to land this attack. After standing still for a while, he will shoot his arm out to grab you. Deflecting this move will deplete his stamina by a large amount. In addition, he will be stunned for a short while, so it's a good idea to attack him with Martial Arts.

It is also worth mentioning that during this phase the enemy can use the stone wave twice, so be prepared for that and don't charge him immediately after parrying the first one.

When you see his entire Spirit bar filled with a negative value, approach him and use Spirit Attack to deal a lot of damage.

Remember, there is no shame in failure! It's much better to die a few times and learn to parry his attacks than to only use dodges, companions, etc. Especially since it's hard to stun any opponent without it, meaning you won't be able to take the most of their health.
