How to Transform and Switch Characters in DB Sparking Zero

Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO is a new game by Spike Chunsoft and the latest installment in the series of 3D fighting games featuring well-known characters from the Dragon Ball universe. Licensed from the popular manga by Akira Toriyama, the game is receiving very positive reviews. In this guide we will tell you how to transform and switch characters. How to Transform Characters in DB Sparking Zero
Let’s start with transformations. Remember that first of all, you have to be ready to do that. You can recognize it by a blue icon below your avatar in the upper left corner.
- Standard Controller Settings: To transform, press Up on the D-Pad to open the Transformation Panel. Then, depending on the controller you're using, select the desired transformation by pressing Square/X, Triangle/Y, Cross/A, or Circle/B during the fight while using Skill Counts. Keep in mind that the transformation boosts the character's stats.
- Classic Controller Settings: Of course, if you are a veteran, you might use classic layout. In this case you have to press the right stick to open the panel and later pick the proper transformation.
- Keyboard: We recommend playing Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO with a controller, but you can also play the game using a keyboard. To show or hide the Transformation Panel, press Z on the keyboard. Then, depending on the transformation you want to choose, press the left mouse button, right mouse button, Q, or F to transform.
How to Switch Characters in DB Sparking Zero
To switch characters, the change icon must be lightened. The icon looks like a yellow uno reverse card, and you’ll find it in the upper left corner of the screen (screenshot below). When it shines:
- Standard Controller Settings: press Left on the D-Pad to open the Switch Panel. From there, select the character you want to switch to by pressing Square/X, Triangle/Y, Cross/A, or Circle/B. This mechanic can unlock different gameplay strategies, so be sure to execute the switch smoothly to maintain the flow of your attacks.

- Classic controller settings: If you want to Switch characters using classic controls, you have to press the right stick. If the transformation panel appears, don’t worry. Keep the stick pushed and additionally press the left stick. Later, pick a proper character.
- Keyboard: While playing with a keyboard, you can switch characters by pressing X. Then, you can navigate the panels using the left mouse button, right mouse button, Q, or F. However, we strongly recommend using a PS5 or Xbox One controller to fully enjoy the game.
