Hulu is now streaming the compelling 2025 thriller. It's already an instant hit in streaming

New productions on streaming are what viewers look forward to when looking around for something to watch. Premieres can be inspiring when looking for a new production to reach for on a slow evening. Fortunately, something new comes out almost every day, and the choice is quite large.

For example, a movie was released on Hulu on July 17 that immediately became a streaming hit. The Amateur, starring Rami Malek, hit the number one spot in the top 10 movies in the United States on Hulu (via Flixpatrol) the very second day, and has held that position for four days now, refusing to be dethroned.

The Amateur is a spy thriller starring the star of the new Superman, Rachel Brosnahan, alongside Malek, as well as Jon Bernthal and Laurence Fishburne. The movie tells the story of a decoder who was forced to take matters into his own hands after the death of his wife. He had no other choice, as his supervisors at the CIA refused to help after his wife was killed in a terrorist attack in London. This is an adaptation of Robert Littell's 1981 novel, which was previously brought to the screens back in 1981.

Critics, 60% of whom on Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a positive rating, praise Malek's performance in The Amateur, which they consider an unconventional action movie hero. The film itself, however, is described by them as schematic. This problem, however, doesn’t bother viewers, 88% of whom praise the film, arguing that “heart and a good cast can elevate a seen-before premise into an action-packed, thrilling ride.” On IMDb, the film has a rating of 6.2/10.

The Amateur really paints itself as an interesting show that is worth watching for such a good cast. So if you've been wondering what to watch, consider the work of James Hawes. The Amateur is available on Hulu.
