Platforming gem Rain World has received a huge DLC titled Downpour. It introduces, among other things, thousands of new maps and a cooperative mode.

Excellent 2D platformer with survival and puzzle game elements, Rain World, just got a DLC titled Downpour. The fact of the DLC's release was quite a surprise, as it is the first expansion for a game released in 2017.

  1. Rain World: Downpour was released exclusively on PC.
  2. The DLC is available on Steam and GOG.com.
  3. The DLC can currently be purchased 10% off. The offer will remain valid until February 2.
  4. Downpour is a non-standalone DLC, so to play you will need the full version of Rain World.
  5. The developers have plans to release console versions of the DLC, but this will come at a later and as yet unspecified date.
  6. The release of the DLC enabled Rain World to set a new activity record on Steam at 4,379 concurrent users.

Downpour is a massive DLC. It offers ten expansive regions with thousands of maps, biomes and weather anomalies to explore, five more characters to choose from, as well as additional gameplay modes, including four-player co-op. Like in the basic version of the game, gameplay focuses on avoiding enemies and exploration.

For now, Rain World: Downpour is meeting with a warm reception. On Steam, 90% of user reviews praise the expansion, which is categorized as a "very positive" reception. Users of the website especially liked the fresh gameplay mechanics assigned to the new playable characters and the impressive number of maps.

Rain World debuted in 2017 on PC and PlayStation 4, and the Nintendo Switch version was released in 2018. Both of these consoles will receive their versions of the DLC in the future.
