First Reviews: Lost Judgment - Criminal Intrigue Praised

First reviews of Lost Judgment have appeared in the web. What emerges from them is a picture of a good game that introduces thoughtful improvements compared to the first part and offers an intriguing detective story.

Next week will mark the release of Lost Judgment, the sequel to 2018's action adventure game Judgment. A lot of reviews have already hit the web and it seems that the project lives up to the expectations and is another successful production by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and Sega.

On OpenCritic Lost Judgment has an average rating of 84%, which is one percentage point higher than the first installment. Below we cite sample scores:

From the reviews, it appears that Lost Judgment does not try to revolutionize the gameplay formula from the first part. The developers built the game on the solid foundations of its predecessor, focusing mainly on improvements and content expansion.

The game is said to offer well thought-out changes in the combat system and detective mechanisms, which make these elements more satisfying than in the first Judgement. Most reviewers have also praised the storyline. The main campaign is very extensive and deals with themes often far more serious than what the Yakuza series offers.

Rich side content is also praised. School adventures in particular are to be admired, full of various challenges and constituting a nice break from the heavy themes of the main story.

The reviewers who gave the lowest scores mainly complain that Lost Judgment does not offer any revolutionary changes, but this does not seem to bother most critics, for whom the introduced novelties and interesting criminal intrigue are enough to recommend the game. Additionally, many editors emphasize that with the release of the sequel, this spin-off series gains a unique character, thus stepping out of the shadow of the main Yakuza series.

Lost Judgment is coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 and will be released on September 24, this year.
