An interview with the developer of The Expanse: Osiris Reborn has provided us with new information about the game. We will not find a classic class system in the game, and a great emphasis has been placed on companions.
During the Future Games Show, The Expanse: Osiris Reborn was announced. The game promises to be extremely interesting, mostly for fans of the Mass Effect series. Especially since it's created by Owlcat Studio, known for games like Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous.
Recently, the online creator CohhCarnage interviewed with the game's creative director, Alexandre Mishulin. The devs has shared many new pieces of info, which we will describe in this news. You can watch the entire conversation below.
Osiris Reborn is an action RPG set in The Expanse universe. Mishulin clarified that the game's action will take place during the events of the first two books, which means for fans of the show, it will cover the first, second, and part of the third season. We will meet familiar faces here, and also visit well-known places like Ganymede or Ceres.
In the game, you won't find the usual class system, but instead, different play styles offer more freedom and are partly defined when creating your character. Interestingly, when creating our protagonist, we actually create two characters at once. The second one will be our twin, who will function as the first companion.
Owlcat, in fact, puts a lot of emphasis on companions, even more than in the studio's previous titles. They have their own personalities, goals, and stories. There will also be romance options. We will be able to take two characters with us on the mission, and the rest will help us from the ship. The game will not allow us to change their archetypes, but we will be able to adjust their skills to match our style of gameplay.
The game will offer freedom in playing your character, but it will not be stretched to the extreme, and in this respect, it is supposed to be similar to the Mass Effect series. It will allow us to become a "good Samaritan" or a "practical, greedy pragmatist."
Osiris Reborn will have a semi-open world, with Ceres as its central hub. We'll meet a lot of characters there. The story itself won't be linear and will let us visit various locations in any order. The length of the game is supposed to be similar to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
From the interview, we also learned about a few other things:
The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is heading to PC, PS5, and XSX/S. The release date isn't known yet.
