The owner of the Dungeons and Dragons franchise, Wizards of the Coast, wants to develop more Baldur's Gate 3-style games in the future, but doesn't intend to create exclusively this type of title.
Baldur's Gate 3 turned out to be a huge success. However, the owner of the franchise rights now has a big problem - Larian studio doesn't intend to return to Dungeons & Dragons.
That's why we were excited to read the interview with the head of Wizards of the Coast, John Hight, on Polygon.
A few days ago, the company announced that they've teamed up with Giant Skull studio to create a game set in the Dungeons and Dragons universe. The team is led by Stig Asmussen (director of the Star Wars Jedi series, who previously worked on the God of War series), so it was not a particular surprise when it turned out that the project would be an action-adventure game, not an RPG title.
We'll have to wait a long time for the Giant Skull's game. However, Height revealed that the team has already developed an impressive single-player gameplay model, which draws from the rich legacy of these creators in terms of both combat and exploration.
It's not clear yet when the company will announce its next classic PC RPG-style franchise adaptation. As a consolation, we are left with the fact that Neverwinter Nights 2: Enhanced Edition will be released next month.
