MechWarrior Online dev announce MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries, a single player tactical action game

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is being developed by Piranha Games, the creators of the free-to-play MMO MechWarrior Online. The game will let you become a young mech pilot and undertake dangerous missions for warring factions.

Going back to the roots of the franchise, Piranha Games have announced MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries, a single player only sci fi first-person action game. This is going be a nice counterweight for the studio’s free-to-play MMO MechWarrior Online, which has been supported for a couple of years now. In contrast to that title, based on CryEngine, MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is using Unreal Engine 4. The game is still at a very early development stage and is said to come out on PC in 2018. Here’s an official pre-alpha gameplay footage, featuring a briefing in a mech hangar as well as some combat:

Like it was in the other MechWarrior Mercenaries games, this one too lets you fill the shoes of a rookie mech pilot, who tries to use the ongoing conflict to earn some coin by doing missions for warring factions. Throughout the single player campaign you will get to choose who to work for and how to spend your hard-earned money as well as watch your prestige grow as you progress. Obviously, the pinnacle of MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries gameplay will be tactical, first-person mech battles. Head over to the game’s official website to learn more.
