The upcoming Millennia is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing attempts to rival the Civilization series in the historical 4X strategy category. The devs of the game have just revealed its premiere date.

  1. Millennia will be released on March 26 this year.
  2. The game is coming exclusively to PC and will be sold on Steam. Pre-sale has already started on Valve's platform. The purchase of a preorder will be rewarded with a digital soundtrack.
  3. The price of the standard edition is $39.99. The Deluxe edition is also offered for $59.99 and includes, among other things, a pass for the first two expansions scheduled for release in the third and fourth quarters of this year.

The developers have also released a new trailer to mark the announcement of the premiere date and the start of pre-sales, which you can watch below.

Millennia divided into Ages

At the same time, a comprehensive article on the game's development progress was released on Steam. The demo released during the recent Steam Next Fest was well received and the devs received many interesting suggestions, which will be implemented into the full version.

Furthermore, the developers provided details about the Ages into which the campaign will be divided. Three main types will appear in the game: historical, corresponding to what we know from our world, as well as two alternatives - Variant and Crisis.

In the article, the devs explained that jumping into the Variant Age won't be a reward for good play, and in Crisis for bad. The criterion will be what the player focuses on in their decisions. Each of the types will have unique units, technologies, and objectives. The developers aim to ensure that no matter what style of gameplay we choose, the game will provide us with a path to success. This allows the devs to avoid situations where we enter the endgame with almost no chance of triumph due to earlier decisions.

For instance, the moment was mentioned when we transition from the second to the third Age. Entering the historic Third Age will be possible if we maintain a reasonable balance in the second. On the other hand, if we were very focused on exploration, we would enter the Age of Heroes (a Variant type), which would enhance our abilities to train legendary heroes and send them on adventures resembling the Odyssey or the Iliad. However, by placing a particularly strong emphasis on wars, we will enter the Age of Blood (Crisis type), which will make it easier to start and conduct further armed conflicts.

In addition to all this, the fourth and final type will be Victory. Entering this kind of Age will be quite challenging, but if we succeed, we will gain a route to achieving an earlier victory in the game.
