The first trailer for the continuation of the beloved Marvel animated series about the X-Men, which will return on March 20, was finally shown. Fans have waited many years for the further adventures of the mutant team, and we will finally get them under the banner of Marvel Animation. The new series certainly impresses with the fact that it tries to imitate the style of the original series in a slightly modernized way, which will probably please fans of the 1990s production.

Beau DeMayo, creator and writer of X-Men '97, in an interview with Empire talked about the series' characters, including Morph, who will undergo a transformation.

This is a lighter take on the character, who is nonbinary and has an interesting buddy relationship with Wolverine. The character’s past with Mister Sinister, the show’s villain, could also come into play.

So, as you can see, this time Wolverine's friend may be treated a little lighter after being portrayed in the original as a traumatized hero. In addition, he underwent a slight change in appearance.

Who is Morph?

Morph is a character from the X-Men animated series, inspired by the villain Changeling. Initially he wasn’t a particularly well-known character, but because of the cartoon's popularity he gained interest and he was brought back in comics, renamed as Morph. It was also decided to make some changes in the design of the character, who lost his human form. Morph was shown as having ivory-colored skin, simplified facial features and no nose (in this version, he looks like Voldemort from Harry Potter series).

This character design was shown in X-Men: Age of Apocalypse and Exiles, and now in X-Men '97 Morph will also be portrayed this way. The series' creators apparently decided to move away from the original design to show Morph as the character is currently portrayed in the comics.

Morph is a shapeshifting member of the X-Men, a fun-loving joker who Wolverine described as "the only one who could ever make him laugh." He was very close precisely with Logan, who was the most bitter about Cyclops' decision to leave Morph behind during the fight against the Sentinels. The X-Men were convinced that Morph had died in the clash with them, but after some time he returned as Mister Sinister's man, full of hatred for his former friends.

It was later revealed that Morph working with Mister Sinister was a completely different personality, implemented by the villain so that he could control the hero. However, Morph managed to break free from his control and returned to the X-Men.
