Yesterday, the game industry's "anomaly," Baldur's Gate 3, celebrated its second anniversary since its release. Many people consider this game a contender for the title of "game of the decade" and the best RPG of the 21st century. Just look at the ratings it has gathered to understand how much it is adored.

Impressive results

As of now, Baldur’s Gate 3 has been rated by over 680,000 people on Steam. This number alone is quite impressive, but what's even more jaw-dropping is the fact that 96% of them are positive. No doubt about it - this title is one of the biggest achievements in the gaming industry and a huge success for the creators. This is also confirmed by the result in the PS Store - 4.8/5 stars with 88,000 ratings.

It's also worth noting that a very large number of players are still enjoying Baldur’s Gate 3. In the last 24 hours, over 90,000 people were playing it on Steam at the same time (via SteamDB). As a single-player title (although it also offers a co-op mode), it's something quite unique.

In April the game received its last major update, thus ending its development. From time to time, however, small patches are released introducing minor improvements.

Larian Studios is making something crazy

Even though the second anniversary of the release wasn't celebrated in a big way, it was mentioned by Swen Vincke, the CEO of Larian Studios. He admitted that Baldur’s Gate 3 changed his life and allowed the developers to "do another crazy thing." Unfortunately, we will have to wait a bit longer for its reveal, but Vincke assures that it's worth it.

Crazy to think it’s only been two years. It’s truly been life changing. Probably worth writing about one day. But I can spoil the biggest takeaway. BG3 was what allowed us to do our next crazy thing. How that will pan out is anyone’s guess but I can assure you we’re working hard to ensure you’ll have plenty of fun. Like really - loads of it. In a surprising way. And I can’t wait to show you. But you’ll need to be patient. We’ll need a bit of time to make it all work. It’ll be worth it though.

What do we know at the moment about the next game from Larian Studios? Well - practically nothing. The company is currently working on two titles at the same time, and one of them is "crazy ambitious," so it's taking a lot of time to finish.

Vincke revealed that the next game from the studio should launch in 2028 or 2029, but he quickly clarified that we shouldn't attach too much importance to this date.
