No More PIN in ATMs? Intel Announces RealSense ID
Intel has officially presented RealSense ID - Face ID-like face recognition system that can detect fraudsters. The technology can be used, among others, in ATMs.

Intel has announced a technology that, if it works as its creators intend it to, may eliminate the need to enter a so-called PIN number while using an ATM. The so-called RealSense ID is a solution resembling Apple's Face ID - it uses an AI algorithm that recognizes the face, camera and special sensors that allow for detection of depth (and thus can distinguish e.g. a photo, film or picture displayed on the phone from a real person). Intel has also taken care of the recognition of different complexions and antispoofing protection - the technology is said to be able to detect users wearing masks.
The chip on which encrypted user data will be stored is to be responsible for ensuring an appropriate level of security of the system (the same is the case with Apple, where the so-called Secure Enclave plays a similar role). It is worth noting that the data is processed locally - no network connection is required, so there is no additional risk to privacy.
According to the manufacturer, the RealSense ID system will be extremely difficult to cheat - at most one attempt per million may be successful. Its advantage is also to be fast - face recognition takes less than a second. Apart from ATMs, the technology can be used, among others, in intelligent locks, security systems and supermarket checkouts.
