Last Friday, the first season of the The Witcher debuted on Netflix. It turns out that this premiere has greatly increased interest in video games from this franchise. According to Steam Charts, the CD Projekt RED's trilogy has seen a big jump in popularity in recent days.
Yesterday, at the hottest moment of the day, 48,000 people were playing Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt on Steam. In the case of Witcher 2 it was 3,1 thousand. Witcher: The Enhanced Edition can boast 5,5 thousand. Of course, thanks to the winter promotion all the games are much cheaper, but this does not fully explain the increase in popularity. Currently, there are many more people playing these titles than in the corresponding periods in the last few years. The only sensible explanation for this is the increased interest in the franchise caused by the premiere of the series from Netflix.
It is worth adding that in the case of Witcher 3 the results from Steam are the highest since 2016. According to analysts, more than one million people have played the title this month on all hardware platforms. This is an extremely impressive result for a four-year old game without multiplayer mode.
Netflix's production has positively influenced not only the popularity of video games. Andrzej Sapkowski's collection of short stories Last Wish became a bestseller in Amazon and Google Play stores.
What's more, Sapkowski is currently the seventh most popular writer on Amazon, and at the time of writing this news two books from the Witcher series have found heir way to Amazon's top five bestsellers in the "ccience fiction and fantasy" category.
Let us recall that the series debuted on Netflix on December 20. The first season consists of eight episodes and all of them were made available simultaneously. It is worth adding that the second season of the Witcher has already been ordered, but for now we do not know when we will see it.
