Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, is well-known for incorporating references to various pop culture works. This time, he’s done it again, nodding to a book by J.K. Rowling.
WARNING: Below you’ll find minor spoilers form One Piece manga.
Just a month after the end of the Egghead Island arc, One Piece fans are being treated to a brand-new arc. This time, we’re headed to the legendary island of Elbaf. The arc kicks off with the separation of the Straw Hats (sounds familiar, right?). After leaving Egghead, two days into their journey, Nami, Chopper, Sanji, Zoro, Usopp, and Luffy vanish from the giants' ship, while the rest of the crew remains onboard.
According to leaks, Chapter 1128 opens with a cover featuring the Straw Hats flying on brooms and wearing uniforms that resemble those from the Harry Potter series. This clear reference is a fun nod to Harry Potter fans, and as we all know, fall is the perfect season for rewatching the entire series. I wouldn’t be surprised if Eiichiro Oda is aware of this and is gearing up for a rewatch himself.
Fans are also thrilled about the reference, sharing their excitement on X. Under the post with the leaks, as well as in other corners of the internet, there are plenty of positive comments praising this fun nod. Here’s one of them:
That cover page actually sounds really cool, love Harry Potter.
Comments like these are nothing new when it comes to One Piece, as the manga has a global fanbase, which don't even want Eiichiro Oda to stop working on it.
As I mentioned earlier, the creator of One Piece frequently makes references to other pop culture works. For example, Sanji is inspired by Mr. Pink from Reservoir Dogs, and one of the Gorosei resembles Mikhail Gorbachev. There are, of course, many more references throughout One Piece to well-known movies, manga, and even books.
