Outlast II officially announced, arriving in Fall 2016

Outlast, a successful horror game from Red Barrels, is officially getting a sequel. Outlast II will arrive in Fall 2016. See its first teaser video.

No doubt this is a good time for this sort of announcements. Outlast II, a sequel to a well-received survival horror game from 2013, was officially revealed through a new teaser trailer published by Red Barrels. It doesn’t actually tell much about the game itself, but it says the title is slated for release in Fall 2016.

However, the video has an ominous description, which gives us a taste of the ambiguous, dark atmosphere Outlast II will create. It reads:

Outlast II (…) is a twisted new journey into the depths of the human mind and its dark secrets. No conflict is ever black and white. But once the dust has settled, the victors get to decide who was right and who was wrong. Who is good and who is evil. Human nature pushes us to extremes of violence and depravity, which we then justify by divine inspiration and a promise of paradise to come. Horror rises from desperation and blind faith. Outlast II will test your faith, pushing players to a place where going mad is the only sane thing to do.”

With Outlast, Red Barrles proved beyond any doubt they are capable of creating a good, genuinely terrifying horror game with interesting gameplay mechanics. We can’t wait to see how they are going to develop on that.
