Frogwares Announces New Game as a 'Middle Finger' to Russia

Ukrainian studio Frogwares has announced a new project. The upcoming Palianytsia is supposed to be an adventure game with horror elements and a kind of insult to Russians.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  • Ukrainian studio Frogwares has announced a new game;
  • Project Palianytsia (working title) will be an adventure game with elements of Lovecraftian horror;
  • The developers said that the game is a kind of "middle finger" directed at the Russians.

Despite the ongoing war, the Ukrainian studio Frogwares (known mainly for the Sherlock Holmes series) is still active. The developers have just announced their next game.

Project Palianytsia (working title) is supposed to be an adventure game with horror elements, set in the Victorian era-like setting. It is supposedly also be an insult directed by the developers towards Russians.

A game for fans of darkness and mysteries

Information about the new project was shared by the developers on Twitter.

This time we will have to deal with a rather intimate production. The game is supposed to focus on dense atmosphere, dark mood and Lovecraftian horror elements.

The developers have promised to provide players with an engaging storyline, full of mysteries to solve. Palianytsia is expected to appeal especially to fans of The Sinking City but also fans of Sherlock Holmes.

Apart from that, no more details about the game have been revealed so far - we do not know the release date or the target platforms. However, the developers have released some concept arts.

The developers have also stated that Palianytsia is "a middle finger aimed at those who thought they could invade our country with the hope of disrupting and destroying our lives."

In fact, even the title of the game itself is supposed to be an insult to the Russians. The word "palianytsia" is supposedly a phonetic nightmare for Russian speakers, making it easy to identify their nationality.

A project created out of necessity

At the same time, the creators revealed that they had not previously planned to make this kind of game. The decision to create it is a result of concessions they had to make due to the aforementioned dramatic events.

Some of the team members cannot continue working due to the ongoing conflict. Some of them are curently on on the front lines in eastern Ukraine or helping people affected by the war, instead of being the studio's new HQ (a grant from Epic Games helped with relocation) .

So the developers had to completely change their approach to work. The result of these actions will be a game different from the previous titles of the studio.
