PES 2022 May Switch to F2P

It looks like Konami is starting to experiment with its football series. According to a reliable source, the new installment of PES will be a free-to-play game.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  • PES 2022 may switch to a free-to-play model;
  • Perhaps it will be a solution similar to the one used in PES 2021 Lite.

It's been many years since the PES series was a real competition for the FIFA series. However, this does not mean that Konami has laid down its arms and does not intend to fight for a place in the market. A new approach to this rivalry may be presented by the upcoming PES 2022. According to rumors, the distribution method of the game will be completely changed.

This information was provided during the VGC Off The Record podcast by Andy Robinson, a journalist responsible for many leaks about Konami. He revealed that the new installment will introduce many changes compared to previous parts of the series. The biggest of these is to be the switch to free-to-play model. For now, it is not known how exactly it could look like.

However, it is possible that on the occasion of PES 2022 Konami intends to develop its idea from last year - that's when the company presented PES 2021 Lite, a special, free version of the 2021 installment. It enabled us play with five clubs and use all the features of the MyClub mode. Another option is a release that will remain free of charge itself, but unlocking new clubs or players will require significant grind.

For now, we can only speculate on what idea Konami came up with. For specific information we must wait until the official presentation of the game. At this point, however, not even the planned release date was revealed.
