Xbox Chief on 'Great Upcoming Games' and Excitement About State of Decay 3

Xbox Game Studios has a lot of talented developers. Phil Spencer wants the company to provide a steady stream of great games.

There are a lot of talented developer studios in Xbox Game Studios, which Phil Spencer says will ensure a steady stream of great games.

Phil Spencer on the future

The head of the Xbox brand touched on the topic during the Xbox Era podcast, in which he noted that the company hasn't reached that point again since December because it doesn't have any "big game" planned for the current quarter.

"We do have a lot of great games in development... We want to get to this point where there's a steady flow of great games that are coming, that our customers can predict... we're going through right now, you know, [and] we don't have a big game this quarter - so Matt Booty and the teams, and the ZeniMax teams...want to get to that point where we really have a great on-ramp for our platform and games that people can get excited about on a regular basis."

Game Pass - one to rule them all

The Game Pass service for Xbox and PC is probably the key factor when it comes to keeping the games flowing. New titles appearing directly on the subscription on launch day are expected to encourage players to buy or continue their subscriptions.

The recent acquisition of Bethesda (and the pending merger with Activision Blizzard) will further strengthen Microsoft's offerings. Noteworthy games in the pipeline include Starfield and State of Decay 3. The latter title may turn out to be a gem, as Phil Spencer himself is very excited about the progress of work on it.

Although Spencer's words may seem a bit "impulsive", it is worth mentioning that Microsoft was recently named Best Publisher of 2021 by Metacritic - with an overall average rating of 87.4/100 for games released during that time.
