New Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Trailer Covers Story Options

A brand new trailer for the upcoming Pokemon Scarlet & Violet showcased the three story paths that players can follow in this new open-world game.

The latest Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet trailer was full of new information from several new Pokemon to the three optional branches of the story. Gamefreak seems committed to making this Pokemon game the true open-world experience that players have been waiting for.

Of course, one of the three paths that can be taken is still the path of battling the region’s eight gym leaders. Though there is no set order in which these gyms must be tackled. What this means is yet to be fully understood. Will each gym leader scale in challenge level as the player levels up? Or will each gym leader remain at a static difficulty, meaning that returning to some of the weaker gym leaders later in the game will be less challenging?

There was also a great moment where the newly introduced Grass type Gym Leader Brassius Terasstallized a Sudowoodo to change it into a Grass type. Finally, after all these years, Sudowoodo accomplishes its dream of being a real tree.

Another path introduced this game’s version of “Team Rocket” in the form of rebellious students known as the Team Star. The trailer showed that this team will have headquarters scattered throughout the Paldea Region and each headquarters might even have themes based on typings. The Team Star leader Mela shown in the trailer is referred to as the leader of the “Fire Crew” so there may be other Water and Grass Crews out there.

There is also the Path of Legends, where the player will team up with Arven to find the Herba Mystica, a rare ingredient for a special dish. The Herba Mystica is guarded by titan Pokemon, which can be much larger than normal. What exactly this herb will be used to create and how the battles with the titans will work is still a little bit of a mystery.

Finally, three new Pokemon were shown in this new trailer. The Rock-type crab Klawf, with the unique ability Anger Shell, boosts its stats when below half of its health. Two mysterious armored Pokemon were also shown. Armarouge (a Fire and Psychic type) is exclusive to Scarlet version, and Ceruledge (a Fire and Ghost type) is exclusive to Violet version.

One last thing: while not shown in the trailer, the Official Scarlet & Violet website explained a new feature called Let’s Go, where the player can send their Pokemon off into the wild to find items and battle wild Pokemon on their own. During these Auto Battles, the Pokemon will act of its own accord in battle and still gain experience. This is a great way to multitask in this game and might even be a useful tool for exploring new areas.

There is still a lot to figure out about how all of this will affect the overall gameplay experience. Pokemon Scarlet & Violet release for the Nintendo Switch on November 18th, so the wait won’t be much longer. What do you think was the most exciting part of this trailer? Have you decided if you will be playing Scarlet or Violet? Leave a comment below letting us know your thoughts!
