Video games are very complex pieces of software, where small mistakes can result in disastrous outcomes. There are many situations in a player’s life that can be disappointing, but there aren’t many worse feelings than lost progress, especially not from our fault. This seems to be the case with House Flipper 2, where many fans have reported lost saves holding sometimes hundreds of hours of gameplay. Let’s dive deeper to investigate this problem and see what can be done about it.

Lost saves in House Flipper 2 explained

House Flipper 2 is a title that has a stress free, relaxing gameplay that helps you lay back and take a break from everyday struggles. However, there is nothing relaxing in losing your saved games, especially when you dedicate a lot of time and effort into them. If one day you have launched the title and your progress has gone, you are unfortunately not the only one.

Some of the people enjoying (or trying to enjoy) the title report that not only the save files are missing, but also all the settings and perks. It’s like creating a new game from scratch. That would indicate missing not only save files, but also the whole profile.

Many fans are pointing out that there is an issue with Steam Sync in this game. This feature is supposed to protect your saves, while in this case, it appears that it makes them disappear. You can disable this functionality by right clicking House Flipper 2 in Steam’s Library, selecting “Properties…” and then switching off slider responsible for Steam Cloud. It is not confirmed, though fans claim that after disabling cloud backup, the saves are not vanishing anymore.

Possible fix for missing profile in House Flipper 2

There have been voices stating that creating a new profile and loading the old one can bring back your progress. This, however, does not work for everyone, and definitely doesn’t prevent the saves from vanishing again.

If by any chance this worked for you, immediately back up your profile files. They are in the following location:

C:\Users\[username]\Documents\House Flipper 2\Profiles

You can copy your saved games after longer sessions with House Flipper and paste them back in case there are any issues. There is also a dedicated, free, open-source software that can help you with backing up all your games saves – ludusavi.

Please bear in mind that we do not own this program, nor we take any liability for it.

There is one last resort though, if you are using configured OneDrive. By default, this cloud storage backs up your Documents folder. If that’s the case for you, you might be in luck and there is a chance that you will find your save files in that service. Path to your House Flipper 2 profile directory will look like this:

C:\Users\[username]\OneDrive\Documents\House Flipper 2\Profiles

If the backup is up and running, you should go to OneDrive’s website, log in with your Microsoft account and check in the Recycle bin if your missing profile file (profile.json) can be located there. If it is, simply click on it and use Restore option. Good luck!
