Big Changes in Redfall; Unfortunately Still No 60 FPS on Consoles

Redfall finally got its first major update. However, it does not include the highly anticipated performance mode.

Redfall turned out to be one of the biggest disappointments of the year. Now, more than a month after its release, we finally got the first major patch. The update brings a ton of important fixes, but unfortunately does not include the highly anticipated 60 fps mode on consoles.

This is a very controversial issue for this game. After all, on many presentations Redfall was running at sixty frames per second. A few weeks before the release, the developers announced, however that at launch their game would only offer 30 fps - even on the Xbox Series X. However, they promised that 60 fps mode would be added in one of the post-release updates. As you can see, we will still have to wait for this feature.

Refall - what's new in patch 1.1

Now that we've discussed what the patch doesn't offer, it's high time to address what it actually brings. The patch is numbered 1.1 and introduces quite a lot of changes.

  1. Numerous gameplay improvements have been made. For example - the number of enemies spawning on the map has been increased, and players can finally move freely when performing melee attacks. Many missions and their descriptions have also been improved, and a bug that caused monster nests to open at the wrong times in New Game Plus mode has been fixed.
  2. Significant improvements have also been made in combat - vampires and cultists have become more effective and react faster to player behavior.
  3. AI has been improved - both of enemies and allies.
  4. Improvements have also taken place in the game world. We encounter enemies more often, and they can no longer attack us through walls. A ton of glitches in the environment have also been fixed, improved collision detection with objects has been implemented, and lighting in many interiors has been tweaked.
  5. Patches have also been implemented that are expected to result in better performance and greater engine stability.
  6. The patch also introduces improvements to the interface and accessibility options.

Redfall was released on May 2 on PC, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X. The game is also available as part of Game Pass on all hardware platforms.

The title was received disastrously - the ratings given by industry media were abysmal. Even worse was the reaction of the players themselves - on Steam only 31% of user reviews are positive.

The fact that Arkane has finally started to fix the game is positive news, but the question arises - does the studio have anyone waiting for it? Yesterday's activity record on Steam was, after all, a mere 99 players.
