Nvidia has just officially announced that all owners of the original Portal will receive its refreshed version with ray tracing support for free. The expansion is expected to come out as early as this November (no exact date was provided). Portal with RTX, as this "remaster" is called, can already be added to your wish list on Steam.
A trailer for the project, comparing the graphics of the original Portal with its new version is available below. You can see that not only have things like the lighting effects, reflections or water been improved, but also some of the objects have been completely changed. According to Nvidia: "Owners of GeForce RTX 40 series GPUs can experience full ray tracing in 4K in Portal with RTX." So get ready for high system requirements (to be announced soon, by the way).
With the reveal of Portal with RTX a contest (starting tomorrow) in which you can win an RTX 40 series graphics card was announced. To participate, you need to watch Nvidia's official profiles (on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook) and add Portal with RTX to your wish list on Steam, take a screenshot, then share it on social media, adding the hashtag #PortalRTX.
Nvidia also announced RTX Remix - a free modding tool, which will enable you to transform classic games (such as Morrowind or Half-Life) into their pseudo-remasters, using the RTX technology, among others. For now, not even an approximate release date for this app has been announced, but those interested can already register on Nvidia's website to receive information about its availability.
