Skyrim cities overhauled thanks to mod

A new mod for Skyrim overhauls the existing cities and adds some new ones. Many settlements got new architecture and citizens, and are now even more immersive.

There are hundreds and hundreds of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim fan-made modifications, but only a select few really stand out from the crowd. One of these notable exceptions is Holds: The City Overhaul, which breathes new life into Skyrim’s settlements. Its creator, who goes by the nickname Galandil, rebuilt Falkreath, Winterhold, and Dawnstar from scratch. Other holds, like Whiterun and Solitude, had their architecture overhauled and got some new buildings. The streets are now filled with more people with their own backgrounds and daily routines, and if you want to learn more about the lore, you can find new books.

Apart from overhauling the existing settlements, Galandil added some new villages, e.g. Amber Guard and Black Moor. According to the author, they lie in places hidden from view so as not to “ruin the expansive wilderness theme of the game”. He added:

This is not a botanical garden mod, nor is it a beautification mod. Holds aims to stay as lore-friendly as possible and at the same time expand on the backgrounds and stories for its locations.

It took him two and a half years to develop Holds: The City Overhaul. You can now admire the results of his work in the videos below. And if you want to download the mod, head over to this website:
