NPCs in Skyrim Will Finally Say Your Name

NPCs in Skyrim can now address the player by name now. All you have to do is install the new mod that uses AI.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  • New mod for Skyrim makes it possible for NPCs to speak the name chosen by the player;
  • This is possible by using xVASynth;
  • Unfortunately, the mod has its limitations and cannot change the speech of dragons.

RPGs, in which we create our own character, often have the same problem. We can choose any name we want, but the NPCs will not use it anyway, preferring a universal title.

The same is true for Skyrim, where our hero or heroine is always referred to as the Dragonborn or Dovahkiin. A recently released mod fixes this problem.

Intelligent NPCs

The modification, written by user DanRuta, is called Say My Name. The mod took into account all dialogue lines in which NPCs call the player a Dragonborn.

After finding the problematic fragments, he created a file that enables us to change them using xVASynth. This is an AI-based app that allows for the generation of audio statements based on selected recordings.

NPCs were given the ability to say the name chosen by the player. Thanks to this, it finally has some meaning and is actually able to influence our gameplay.

Mod has some requirements

It should be noted, however, that this mod has its limitations. First of all, it only supports the English language. In addition, it can sometimes sound unnatural.

It also does not affect the dialogues with dragons. The sound of their voice was too difficult to control with xVASynth, so they will still address the player per Dovahkiin.

The modification can also be complicated to use for some players. You will not be able to install it using popular mod managers like Vortex.

Instead, you will have to play around with modifying lines of text in your notepad and downloading additional applications. If that doesn't put you off, detailed instructions for installing the mod can be found on its page at Nexus Mods.
