Sony Tries to Convince That 2024 will be Great, but Has No AAA Games of Its Own on Release List

Sony showed off the most important games that will hit PlayStation 5 next year, and the attention is drawn to the extremely modest range of exclusive titles developed by the company's in-house studios.

Sony has published anarticle on the official PlayStation blog, extolling the most important games coming to the PS5 next year. The list includes the following titles:

  1. Destiny 2: The Final Shape
  2. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
  3. Foamstars
  4. Helldivers II
  5. The Last of Us: Part II Remastered
  6. Rise of the Ronin
  7. Stellar Blade
  8. Tekken 8

It's a nice list, but if you take a closer look at it, one thing becomes clear - there is not a single new AAA exclusive among these games that was developed by a Sony-owned studio (The Last of Us: Part II Remastered is just a refreshed version of an older game). Such items have built the power of the PlayStation brand, but as of yet none have been announced for 2024.

Sony will try to plug this hole with third-party exclusives next year. Square Enix will deliver Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (PS5) and Foamstars (PS5 and PS4), while Koei Tecmo will release Rise of the Ronin exclusively for PlayStation 5.

It's also quite possible that Sony has some surprises in store. There are many indications that next year we will get a game starring Venom, built on the foundations of this year's Marvel's Spider-Man 2, in the same way that Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales was something between a game and an expansion for the first part of the series.

All this means that PlayStation 5 owners will have something to play next year, but there's no denying that Sony's own offer for 2024 currently look poor.
