Iconic Stronghold Gets New Decent Remaster; Trailer Available

The first part of the iconic series of real-time strategy games from Firefly, released in 2001, will get a "real" remaster. Stronghold: Definitive Edition will be released on Steam on November 7.

This will actually be the second remaster of the game about managing a medieval city and expanding a castle - the first came out in 2012 under the name Stronghold HD. However, it didn't change anything in the gameplay, but only introduced support for high screen resolutions. The upcoming Definitive Edition on the other hand is expected to be something that will definitely satisfy fans of the original. Below you'll see a short trailer for the game, which showcases, among other things, refreshed graphics.

Stronghold remaster with new features

Stronghold Definitve Edition is not only a remastered visuals and improved animations. In addition, the game will offer:

1. a new single-player story campaign (comprising of 14 missions) created by Firefly Studios co-founders Simon Bradbury and Eric Ouelette. In it, the goal will be to find Sir Longshanks' kidnapped niece.
2. "Stronghold Trail," a series of 10 new challenging siege scenarios;
3. multiplayer mode accessible directly from the main menu;
4. upgraded gameplay, including a revised user interface and controls;
5. a refreshed soundtrack with new dialogue lines recorded by some of the original voice actors;
6. support for Steam Workshop.

The upcoming remaster of Stronghold thus appears to be a good opportunity to unite your kingdom in medieval England and clash with the leaders of the rebellion for those familiar with the original, but also new players.

It is also worth mentioning the minimum system requirements of the refreshed Stronghold, which are not high (below).

Stronghold: Definitive Edition - minimum requirements

1. Processor: Intel Core i5-3330 3 GHz or AMD equivalent.
2. Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 or AMD Radeon HD 7970 (2 GB VRAM)
3. RAM: 8 GB
4. Disk space: 6 GB

For now, we don't know how much Stronghold Definitve Edition will cost.
