Tesla Sold Almost Half a Million Cars in 2020

Last year Tesla managed to deliver almost half a million electric cars to its customers. The result is only marginally worse than the target set by Elon Musk.

IN A NUTSHELL:

  1. In 2020, Tesla delivered 499,550 cars to customers;
  2. The number is just barely shorty of the planned target of half a million cars;
  3. 180,570 vehicles were delivered in the fourth quarter alone.

Tesla reported that it delivered 499,550 cars to users in 2020. This means that the company was only four hundred and fifty vehicles short of reaching the target of 500,000. This can be considered a very good result, taking into account the global situation - the coronavirus pandemic forced, among others, the closure of the factory in China and the main production line in the Californian city of Fremont for several weeks.

In the last quarter the company managed to deliver as many as 180,570 cars to customers. The result is due to the enormous mobilization - before the end of last year, even the chief designer Franz von Holzhausen delivered cars to new owners.

The company also pointed out that the final statcs - once all the information from the last months has been collected - may differ from these figures The margin of error is 0.5 %, so it is possible that Tesla will nevertheless reach half a million cars delivered. We will see about this at the end of January, when the data from the whole year will be made public.

Regardless of the final results, the performance of Elon Musk's company is more than twice as good as that of other electric car manufacturers such as BYD or Volkswagen. It is worth noting that the success was mainly achieved by selling cheaper models 3 and Y (the first of which is the most popular electric car in the world).

The billionaire praised his team on Twitter, underlining that he is proud of its achievements and how far Tesla has come since its creation.
