The somewhat forgotten mode of Team Fortress 2, Mann vs Machines, will receive an update co-created by fans of the cult FPS.

Since TF2 was handed over to the players, fans of quirky mercenaries have been busy, but so far, it hasn't resulted in completely new, larger fan projects. However, Valve clearly wants to encourage players to take creative actions. The result of this is the first announcement on Steam in years that is not related to the release of updates, tournament games, or community actions.

The funny post (also available on the official game website) presents the developer's plan (or request) in a rather veiled way, but in short: Valve is asking fans for help in preparing maps and missions for the Mann vs. Machine update. This update will reach players in two parts: around August 27, and then during the Halloween period.

That's basically everything you can glean from the new announcement. However, even such an enigmatic post-request sparked hope among the players.

Some of them humorously (or cynically) note that this will be the meme-like Heavy Update, which fans have been waiting for since the release of Jungle Inferno - the last update with new weapons, released in 2017. Other internet users are saying that Valve wanted to add new content at the expense of players, but that's not entirely true. Map creators can earn money from their work.

Despite that, you can still see the clear enthusiasm of the fans. So far, Valve has limited itself to collaborating with the community gathered around the potato.tf2 website to organize unofficial tournaments with changes introduced on fan servers. This time it promises to add completely new content to the actual game, which pleases the players.

Of course, as usual, some fans hope that Valve is also preparing its own add-ons. Many people would like to see new rewards in the form of Australium weapons - extremely valuable and only obtainable in MvM (currently, there are still many weapons without such a variant). It was not overly difficult, although in the case of some pieces, the chances of this are slim (including, for example, weaponry associated with other franchises like The Witcher).

Some players wouldn't mind balance adjustments, although in this case, it's better not to expect any changes.
