The return of Takistan? DayZ fans speculate after a mysterious teaser.
The DayZ devs are sticking to their 2025 roadmap and just slip that something big is on the way. We've already seen the stability update, a few seasonal events, and the 1.28 update that brought new guns and some firearm tweaks. So now, it’s about time for something major, and let’s be real, we’re all thinking the same thing: a new DLC or map. But it might not be completely new after all.
These days, it’s pretty much standard practice – just tease that something’s coming and let the community run wild with theories. Bohemia Interactive posted on X that more details will be rolling out this Friday (June 27). They kept it vague, of course, pairing the post with a cryptic little teaser that instantly got the rumor mill turning.
As time slips through the hourglass,
and the desert winds erase the past,
Reborn anew,
Survivors rise where shadows cast!
The key to the official announcement lies with the DayZ community
It didn’t take players long to start connecting the dots. Most are convinced it’s a pretty obvious hint at the return of the legendary Takistan from Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead, this time making its way into the world of DayZ. For longtime fans, that’s a big deal.
Takistan is one of Arma’s most iconic settings, heavily inspired by real-world Central Asian and Middle Eastern regions, especially Afghanistan. The map is known for its arid desert terrain, rugged mountains, and small, scattered rural villages, creating the perfect backdrop for both large-scale battles and tense, tactical encounters. It struck such a chord with players that it later made a comeback in Arma 3 through mods and community-made content. There’s of course a modded version of Takistan available for DayZ on PC too.
So, if this mysterious “Badlands” that Bohemia teased really is a reimagined Takistan, then we might be in for something pretty special. Luckily, we won’t have to wait long to find out.

Been with gamepressure.com since 2019, mostly writing game guides but you can also find me geeking out about LEGO (huge collection, btw). Love RPGs and classic RTSs, also adore quirky indie games. Even with a ton of games, sometimes I just gotta fire up Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, KOTOR, or Baldur's Gate 2 (Shadows of Amn, the OG, not that Throne of Bhaal stuff). When I'm not gaming, I'm probably painting miniatures or admiring my collection of retro consoles.
