Ubisoft announced crackdown on exploiting a vulnerability in one of the newer game modes in Tom Clancy's The Division 2. While the response to the serious exploit seems understandable, the severity of the penalties imposed on rogue players is puzzling.

Consequences of exploiting the vulnerability

The exploit in question is related to the recently added roguelike mode called Descent. Clever agents joined other players' ongoing game sessions from within the Ubisoft Connect app. This action would enable them to quickly and easily enrich themselves with many experience points.

Realizing the presence of the bug, the publisher announced a fight against those abusing the practice. In addition to a temporary or permanent ban and account fragging, the progress that suspected players have made using the unfair practice is to be wiped.

  • Some players praise the publisher's stance, explicitly suggesting that unfair behavior involving the exploitation of loopholes in multiplayer games should be punished.
  • However, it is also possible to see voices of discontent, criticizing Ubisoft's tardiness in similar incidents in the past.
