Production of the second season of The Last of Us has already begun. Meanwhile, the showrunner announces the storm that the next batch of episodes may cause.
The Last of Us from HBO is certainly one of the best TV adaptations of a video game ever. The show, which premiered earlier this year, quickly became a hit. In terms of viewership, the work of Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann recorded a better debut on the platform than House of the Dragon, so it's no surprise that the TV station decided to order a second batch of episodes.
However, the work was delayed by the screenwriter strike of the Writers Guild of America (WGA). Nevertheless, Craig Mazin intends to finally finish writing the script and start recording. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly the showrunner admitted that expects a storm among fans, who will watch the second season.
"I won't reveal whether there will be events in the series that took place in the game. You never know what we will ultimately do. But I will say that the adventure, the journey is the most important thing. There will be things that were in the game, and things that weren't in the game, and that's okay.. As long as they have a purpose, they're not there just to shock. (...) We just want to tell the story the way we think it should be told," he said.
When asked, whether the show will unleash a storm, Craig Mazin replied:
"Will there be a storm? Possibly. I mean, it usually does, starting with the very selection of the cast. We knew it was exactly the right person to cast the role, but we had to go through months of people being obnoxious on social media until they saw what we saw from the beginning. For me, that's where the essence lies. We don't operate in a way to make people happy or avoid upsetting them on social media. We do what we think is right, and we hope viewers will enjoy it."
The second season of The Last of Us presents the showrunners with a a big challenge. A premiere date was still not revealed, but it is unofficially said that the show will return on HBO no earlier than early 2025.
