Today marks the debut of The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story, a slightly different game set in the LoL universe than those released by Riot Games to date. At the same time, this pixelart action RPG is receiving its first reviews, which are mostly positive.

Appreciated by the critics is primarily the addictive and enjoyable combat system. Particularly noteworthy was the ability of the main character, Silas, which enables you to steal spells wielded by the enemies you encounter. The audiovisual setting is also praised; according to the journalists, the impressive magic attacks combine well with the pixel-art environment. In this aspect there is not much surprise, the developers of The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story were previously responsible for the equally eye-pleasing Moonlighter.

The argument most frequently repeated by reviewers is that it is not necessary to know the universe of LoL, to have fun in The Mageseeker. For those who have rebounded from the MOBA genre, it can be quite an enjoyable alternative, even more so if you prefer a single-player experience. However, veterans of Riot's games will also find something to enjoy, finally getting a closer look at the history of the famous champions.

"A revolutionary story with memorable characters, excellent combat and surprisingly direct politics," wrote PC Gamer, 89/100.

"The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story is an epic tale with hard combat. I became attached to Sylas, and by the time I finished the game, I wanted more of this fight and story," praises TechRaptor, 8.5/10.

"The Mageseeker is another reason to be fired up about what Riot will do with [the universe - editor's note] of League of Legends in the future," declares God is a Geek, 8.5/10.

For this moment The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story boasts an average rating of 82% (based on 12 reviews) on OpenCritic.
