The Witcher 3 Returns to the Top

With the „next-gen” update for The Witcher 3, the iconic game by CD Projekt RED is triumphant again.

A few days ago the next-gen update for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has launched. Although the introduction of the patch was not without problems, it gave new life to the iconic 2015 game. Perfect proof of this is the significant increase in the game's popularity on consoles and PCs.

And so, taking into account PlayStation store, The Witcher 3 climbed to second place on the overall bestseller list. The game is second only to FIFA 23 (Fortnite as a free-to-play game is not taken into account). If, on the other hand, we focus on the PS4 consoles, Wild Hunt becomes the leader of the list, ahead of such titans as Modern Warfare 2 and God of War: Ragnarok.

The situation also looks impressive on Steam. Two days before the update, The Witcher 3 was being played by 34,801 concurrent users. On the other hand, after the patch was released, the number skyrocketed to 85,270 users at the same time. It should be remembered that the release took place in the middle of the week, so a sizable number of players, for various reasons, could not join the fun right away. Saturday, therefore, brought an even better result - 85,508 people. Perhaps Sunday's stats will be more impressive, but we'll have to wait a bit longer for those.

Interestingly, the current results on Steam are quite close to the all-time record from 2020, when the game's popularity exploded in connection with the release of The Witcher show on Netflix.

It is worth noting, by the way, that Wild Hunt returned to the top 100 bestsellers of the platform. This is some achievement, considering that the game was not discounted.

All these stats prove that CD Projekt Red's decision to release a next-gen update was a bullseye. We can only hope that the developers will relatively quickly deal with the problems that the update causes, especially on PCs.
