Tortuga: A Pirate's Tale Launches Today

The year of pirate games is considered open. The turn-based tactical game Tortuga: A Pirate's Tale launches today. This is the latest work from the creators of such strategy games as Port Royale 3 and 4, Railway Empire and Patrician IV.

The year 2023 promises to be very good for fans of pirate vibes. High-budget Skull and Bones from Ubisoft is looming on the horizon, in the distance emerges the co-op survival game Pirate's Dynasty, and in June, the strategy game Of Ships & Scoundrels will leave early access. However, the start of the year with pirate games begins with Tortuga: A Pirate's Tale - a tactical strategy game from Gaming Minds Studios, makers of Port Royale and Railway Empire.

Tortuga: A Pirate's Tale - essential info

Tortuga: A Pirate's Tale is a turn-based tactical game, enabling us to take on the role of the commander of a pirate fleet in the 17th-century Caribbean. The gameplay mechanics focus on traversing the open world, completing quests, searching for hidden treasures, as well as fighting and trading. Battles seem to be particularly interesting - they differ from the arcade skirmishes known from Sid Meier's Pirates!, taking the form of turn-based clashes on hexes straight out of Humankind.

Also interesting seems to be the development of the fleet, which will include 18 unique types of vessels, along with their customization (e.g. upgrades to armament, hull, mast or warheads). The title will provide about 25 hours of fun and will be designed exclusively for single player.

The game's developer is Gaming Minds, a team owned by Kalypso Media (acting as publisher). The German studio has in its portfolio such titles as Railway Empire or Patrician IV. The team's latest game is Port Royale 4, and later this year the developers will release the sequel to Railway Empire.

Want to play on PC? Only Epic

The title is now available for purchase on PlayStation 4 and 5 consoles (in PS Store for $29.99, 10% off for PS Plus subscribers), as well as on Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X (Microsoft Store). What's more, until January 26, the game will be discounted by 10%

PC players will have to wait a few hours for the game's release. The title will be available exclusively on Epic Games Store. For the time being, we do not know the price of the PC version, the release time or the duration of the exclusivity period.
