Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin, an RTS developed by Frontier Developments, promises to be a real treat for fans of this dark universe. An open beta was organized this past weekend. The game's official website has just published an article, in which the devs announced the planned changes to the gameplay, based on player suggestions after testing.

  1. First of all, two different keys will activate units' abilities and give them a retreat order. In the beta version, both of these actions were assigned the same button, which was increadibly frustrating.
  2. Other control improvements await us as well. We will control camera movement with the WASD keys by default, though of course it is to be possible to change them in the menu. Troops are also expected to react faster to our orders. Gamepad handling will also be improved.
  3. The interface will be improved. Players will be able to resize icons and windows (which is especially useful on large monitors), and clicking outside a window will lead to its closure. We will also gain access to additional tips and unit information. In addition, clicking on a spot on the mini-map will move the camera there.
  4. We can also expect a number of gameplay balance improvements.
  5. Players complained about the poor balance of difficulty levels, but the devs reassure that future versions of the game will be much better in this regard, especially in terms of AI commanding enemy forces.

The first open beta proved more fruitful than expected. That's why plans to hold a second test in August were abandoned, as the devs need more time to make all the necessary changes. The next beta will therefore take place at a later date.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin is heading for PC, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. The game will offer a cross-play option, enabling owners of different hardware platforms to play together. The release is scheduled for next year.
