Windows 11 24H2 Displays Blue Screen on PCs With Easy Anti-cheat
The Windows 11 update to 24H2 has caused unexpected problems with Easy Anti-Cheat. There have been instances where the computer displays the infamous BSOD when starting a game.
The latest updates for Windows 11 are causing significant problems. Optional patch KB5043145 destabilizes the work of peripheral devices, and the 24H2 update does not work with Easy Anti-Cheat. After installing it, some players experience problems in games, including the infamous "blue screen of death" when trying to launch a given game. For this reason, Microsoft has temporarily disabled update installation for PCs with Easy Anti-Cheat (see Tom's Hardware).
Windows 11 24H2 doesn't like Easy Anti-Cheat on PCs with Intel.
In the article titled "Windows 11, version 24H2 known issues and notifications" from September 30, Microsoft included information about problems with Easy Anti-Cheat and so far no update has appeared, which suggests that the problem still exists. Currently, both companies are cooperating to find a solution to the unusual problem.
The bugs definitely occur on PCs where the latest version of Easy Anti-Cheat is dated April 2024. Additionally, it only applies to devices with Intel Alder Lake (12th generation) and vPro series CPUs. In the case of these computers, Microsoft has disabled the ability to install the 24H2 update, and the system displays a message that it is not ready for installation.
Microsoft recommends not to update Windows 11 to version 24H2 on your own and to wait until the problem is resolved. At this time, the only recommended solution is to update the games that use Easy Anti-Cheat, as new installation files may contain a newer version of the software, which should help.
It's hard to say how long the search for a solution will take. An interesting topic is the issue of cooperation with CPUs and why it only affected Intel chips, and not those from AMD. However, this should not affect the popularity of Windows 11, which is slowly coming back into favor with gamers.
