Xiaomi Unveils New Device; Chinese Want to Compete With Facebook

Xiaomi presented a design for smart glasses, which surprise with the number of functions. As the manufacturer announces, Smart Glasses are more than just a phone accessory.

In the pursuit of smart glasses straight from a futuristic movie, we have seen projects such as Google Glass or Stories, the latter created in collaboration between Ray-Ban and Facebook. The first of these, unfortunately, has not been successful enough for other manufacturers to feel encouraged to develop this branch of technology. The long silence on the subject was broken by the announcement of the aforementioned Ray-Ban Stories, and now they are joined by Smart Glasses - the proposal by Xiaomi.

What can we expect from this gadget? When it comes to purely technical specs, Smart Glasses will run on Android, with a 4-core ARM processor on board. The glasses are equipped with a microLED display of 0.13 inches with a peak brightness of 2 million nits, as a result what we see will be overlaid with a layer of additional information, such as translated text, navigation directions and phone notifications. There's also a 5 megapixel camera, speakers and microphone.. The construction weighs only 51 grams, and from ordinary glasses it is distinguished by a more massive frame.

On the subject of the gadget's features, in addition to the camera, which enables us to record and take pictures, we will be able to view notifications, use navigation, or make phone calls. Moreover, thanks to the microphone, the glasses will also enable us to translate speech in real time and, of course, text from photos. A monochrome display may be a drawback for some users, but this has been used for the sake of eye safety, as well as to simplify the (already complicated) design.

Smart Glasses promise to be very good, offering definitely more features than the Ray-Ban Stories. It's just a shame that we did not know the release date of Xiaomi's product. It is very possible that we will have to wait quite a bit for the glasses. Nevertheless, these two launchess can be a harbinger of fierce competition in the market of smart glasses.
