2019 Top Unexpected Video Game Hits

What are 2019's most wanted games? Easy question, no? The Division 2, Gears 5, maybe even Cyberpunk 2077. But all these games spend heaps of cash on advertising, making it easy to forget about smaller titles. Here, we'd like to focus exactly on these.

It's no secret that the graphics in Scorn is much clearer than in Agony, but we’re taking it all with a big pinch of salt.

You cannot miss this game if:

  1. Alien is your favorite film;
  2. In horror movies, you prefer to hold a pistol in your hand than a camera;
  3. You like to discover secrets.
IN A NUTSHELL
  1. Platform: PC
  2. Producer: Ebb Software
  3. Date of release: 2019

I hope that the developers from Ebb Software have thoroughly tested Agony, thus learning from the mistakes of its developers. I refer to this unfortunate 2018 release because the designs of both games seem to me dangerously similar. And although Scorn is strongly inspired by the work of a well-known Swiss graphic designer, it may not be difficult to trip over – and then, the name of H. R. Giger may not be enough of a cover. Our reservations are further agitated since the game failed its Kickstarter campaign, so the players might have simply sussed things out. Well, at least some players – the game’s still on our list, right?

Scorn is neither the first nor the last game inspired by the stunning and terrifying works of H. R. Giger, the creator of the xenomorph, who became the protagonist of the Alien series. We ought to mention at least two parts of the Darkseed adventure game, released a lifetime ago, which for some reason (guess what it is) are still remembered today. And although these really were not outstanding games, and there was plenty to complain about, we should cross our fingers for Scorn, hoping it will equal these classics. But please, understand my skepticism. After Agony, another game held in similar aesthetics, using a similar level of interaction with the environment, and similar mechanics just have to be treated with caution. I hope it will deliver, though.
