Cobblemon
The Cobblemon mod adds Pokémon to the boxy world. None of them has a fixed respawn point – the creatures appear in random places on the map, so you never know who you might encounter while wandering. This is not the only modification of this type available, but it's certainly one that's best integrated with Minecraft and other mods, which is why it is often included in modpacks.
The Pokémon are not just decoration. They can be caught and used to fight the wild varieties. The combat mechanics are similar to those in traditional Nintendo games. Monsters can thus gain experience, allowing them to advance to higher levels and acquire new skills. There was also no shortage of options to evolve creatures into stronger forms.
The author of the mod did a great job. Cobblemon features all first-gen Pokémon along with their evolutions, including later ones. You can also find a few newer specimens on the list of creatures. All of them have received unique animations.
