Gamepressure Games of 2020

The Last of Us: Part 2 or Cyberpunk 2077? Maybe the inconspicuous Hades, which absolutely stormed our hearts? We've chosen our games of the year.

"The Messiah of video games." "The most awaited game of all time." Or simply "the best game to ever have been created". Such and other terms were used in the final months preceding the premiere of Cyberpunk 2077, expanding the balloon of exorbitant and unrealistic expectations even more. Did the game meet these expectations? Of course not - and it never had a chance of doing that. However, this does not change the fact that Cyberpunk 2077 proved to be a hell of a game.

The developers from CD Projekt Red have designed one of the most wonderful virtual cities, full of highly differentiated districts, architectural wonders and details hidden in hundreds of small alleys you can reach from the main arteries. One feels the urge to devour the atmosphere of Night City, tearing out the stories of its inhabitants from the embrace of the metropolis.

The second pillar of the game turned out to be the characters - phenomenally written and played, much more vivid and reliable than what the competitive productions deliver. Whether we are talking about Panam's - a bold nomad, self-contained Judy, or Jack, full of dreams of a better life, it is impossible not to succumb to the illusion that they are real flesh and blood people and not just virtual puppets saying pre-recorded lines. Great screenplay of the main story and exceptionally good side missions also allow tens or maybe even hundreds of side characters to make an appearance to remember, even after a few minutes of their screen time. Cyberpunk 2077 shines with its screenplay and design, also providing a respite from typical stories about saving or shaping the world - a truly intimate story, where the fate of an individual is at the center of events and its possible influence on the environment is secondary.

And it's only a pity that this phenomenal city, great characters and a fascinating scenario were crushed by a huge heap of technical problems, which were especially noticeable for console players. You need to forgive Cyberpunk 2077 quite a lot nowadays in order to enjoy it. For a lot of players it will probably be too much. However, as you can see from the position of this title in this ranking - most of our editors have forgiven the game its sins and appreciated its numerous advantages, collectively granting it the title of game of the year.
