Gamepressure Games of 2020

The Last of Us: Part 2 or Cyberpunk 2077? Maybe the inconspicuous Hades, which absolutely stormed our hearts? We've chosen our games of the year.

14. Ghostrunner

  1. Release date: October 2020
  2. Genre: action game
  3. Platforms: PC, PS4, XOne, Switch

The mean ones (or simply the owners of older consoles) will say that this is the better one out of two Polish cyberpunk games from 2020. Comparing Ghostrunner to Cyberpunk 2077 makes little sense, as, apart from their setting, the two titles have not much in common - from the scale of the project, through the approach to the narrative layer, to the very assumptions behind the gameplay.

In Ghostrunner , the plot simply exists for the sake of being there - it can be fun and engaging, but no one pretends it's more than a mere excuse to play. The gamplay, on the other hand, is based on a dynamic action that combines spectacular combat sequences with no less amazing movement mechanics across futuristic locations, taken almost directly from Mirror's Edge. And the game does not leave room for any compromises, requiring not only extreme dexterity, but also patience to repeat the same sequences many times before the air ballet of death can finally be flawlessly performed.

From those pieces, somewhat known from other productions - apart from the mentioned Mirror 's Edge you can also see here inspirations from such titles as Katana ZERO, Shadow Warrior or even Hotline Miami - One More Level has constructed a unique, addictive game causing players to develp the "one-more-time syndrome" (because we almost succeeded last time, now it will surely be better!). The enthusiasts of real challenges should definitely take a look at this game.
