New and Free PC Games You Might Have Missed in 2021

Are you still playing the same free-to-play titles and starting to feel bored? Then try something new. Here are 8 relatively fresh, free productions available on PC.

Table of Contents

Muck

  1. Developer: Dani
  2. Genre: survival
  3. Release date: June 5, 2021

Why don't you try making your own survival multiplayer game (unless you can't)?

Note the comment above from one YouTube user. He is the one who provoked and motivated Dani, an online video creator, to step out of his comfort zone and do an original project called Muck. This game is described as a survival game with roguelike elements, but it's hard not to get the impression that it's a sort of amateurish, modest, fan-made Minecraft. And I don't say this at all to point out the qualitative disparity between one production and another, because Muck can be really appealing.

It's not groundbreaking, it's hard to even say that this game stands out with anything, but so what – it provides pretty good entertainment. Our task is to stay alive by finding the necessary resources, building a suitable shelter and fending off enemy forces that attack mainly at night.

The only element that may cause ambiguous impressions is the visual side. It one can be described as adorably twisted. Angular objects like unsightly trees and disgusting-looking water go hand-in-hand with interesting enemy designs, or the sun that stands out on the horizon. What else would you expect from such a tiny game?

Play Muck if:

  1. you want to play something like Minecraft.
  2. you're good at survivals.
  3. you like to support projects of beginner creators.

Scavengers

  1. Developer: Midwinter Entertainment
  2. Genre: shooter
  3. Release date: May 1, 2021 (open beta)

Are you looking for a bit of originality, both in survival and classic PvP? In this case, your attention should focus on Scavengers, which combines these two genres in an unconventional way, and at the same time proposes an impressive idea for setting. We move to a future where our planet is covered almost entirely in snow. So, we're dealing with a truly chilling post-apocalypse.

The creators did not choose this type of setting solely for aesthetic reasons. The gameplay is strongly pivoted on weather conditions, which are constantly changing. The player must pay attention to the hero's body temperature and keep it at the right level.

This survival aspect was enriched with group skirmishes referring to what we see in the most popular battle royale games. We fight the enemies for survival, trying to endure until the arrival of the evacuation ship. There's really quite a few ways to have fun (and make it miserable for your opponents). However, it is best to traverse the snowy wastelands with a pack of good friends, because only then can we fully unleash the potential of Scavengers.

  1. you aren't afraid of harsh winter.

CRSED: F.O.A.D. (formerly Cuisine Royale)

  1. Developer: Darkflow Software
  2. Genre: battle royale
  3. Release date: December 2020 (under current name; previously known as Cuisine Royale, released December 19, 2019)

I don't know if you're aware of this, but the April Fools' Day of 2018 had a serious impact on the battle royale genre. It was then that Cuisine Royale, one of the most interesting games of its kind, was released for the first time. Why was it released on the first of April? Well, because it was initially a simple joke about the then-popular games like PUBG and H1Z1.

The rules are seemingly the same as in the competition: a group of players meets on a map full of weapons and the lucky one who manages to be the last person standing wins. The devil is in the details, however. Cuisine Royale had such a ridiculous and bizarre feel to it; we could run around with deadly frying pans in hand, colanders instead of helmets and other, typically kitchen items used to wage warfare.

Recipients quickly became fond of this game of absurdity, especially since the gameplay and the audiovisuals were realized at a very decent level (the game is powered by the same engine as another game from this list, Enlisted). Cuisine Royale became a full-fledged production, and since the end of last year, it has been known under a completely different name – CRSED: F.O.A.D. Complicated to say the least, but the SEO nightmare means "Fulfillment of All Desires." It's not only the name of a newly added tournament to the game, but also a slightly ironic motto to express the madness of battle royale.

Play CRSED: F.O.A.D. if:

  1. you like battle royale.
  2. you're enjoy absurd gameplay ideas.
  3. you're a master of culinary martial arts.

Splitgate

  1. Developer: 1047 Games
  2. Genre: shooter
  3. Release Date: May 24, 2019

Futuristic multiplayer FPS games are mostly associated with highly dynamic gameplay, where you can move from point A to point B at the speed of light using jetpacks, and eliminating enemies is more satisfying than usual thanks to next-gen weapons, if you can call it that. These were the selling points of the Halo series, the Tribes series, and that's exactly what Splitgate is about.

This work offers a multitude of different maps and modes (classic deathmatch or CTF), and you can have a lot of fun here, even though the gameplay isn't impress with anything special. However, this production offers an interesting gameplay solution that completely changes the rules and pace of the game. It's the ability to create and use portals – very similar to those from... Portal. Using other people's ideas is not forbidden, and it works out well here.

The has been braving the purgatory of early access since mid-2019, but don't worry – it's slowly nearing completion. A month ago, the production debuted on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. In addition, the zero season of the game was launched a few days ago. You can finally start having some serious fun.

Play Splitgate if:

  1. you enjoy sci-fi.
  2. you wonder what a combination of Halo and Portal would look like.

His adventure with journalism began with a personal blog, the name of which is no longer worth quoting. Then he interpreted Iranian dramas and the Joker, writing for cinematography journal, which, sadly, no longer exists. His writing credentials include a degree in film studies, but his thesis was strictly devoted to video games. He has been writing for Gamepressure since March 2020, first writing a lot about movies, then in the newsroom, and eventually, he became a specialist in everything. He currently edits and writes articles and features. A long-time enthusiast of the most bizarre indie games and arthouse cinema. He idolizes surrealism and postmodernism. He appreciates the power of absurdity. Which is probably why he also tried soccer refereeing for 2 years (with so-so results). He tends to over-philosophize, so watch out.
