Why is Mafia one of the best games of all time?
Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven has become an iconic game. Why? In 2002, it delighted us in almost every way. At the time, it was impressive with its visuals, poignant music, and engaging missions set in diverse locations. But what was most memorable was the plot and the characters. The story of taxi driver Tommy, who ascends the ranks of a mafia organization during prohibition, was as enjoyable as Martin Scorsese's finest gangster films.
Mafia was created by the developers responsible for Operation Flashpoint and more recently Kingdom Come: Deliverance. So it shows elements characteristic of these Czech games, such as the very slow building of the atmosphere at the beginning and a lot of uncompromising solutions in gameplay mechanics, for example in the form of strict enforcement of traffic regulations while driving around the city. Despite its Slavic roots, The City of Lost Heaven remains the most atmospheric production about the Italian mafia.
Remake or remaster? What is Mafia's Definitive Edition"?
I just can't understand why no one wants to remaster this game? Instead of doing the third part, they could remaster it.

As you can see, dreams come true sometimes! The Definitive Edition will not be a regular remaster with a revised texture resolution. The authors from studio Hangar 13 created the iconic Mafia from scratch, on a new engine. They recreated all the missions, locations and cutscens, shooting them again with the actors in motion capture sessions. The script and some of the missions were reportedly made a little more elaborate, and fans of the original will have to get used to the changed faces of the main characters. Is another masterpiece is bound to come out? Remains to be seen.
WHT IT'S WORTH WAITING?
Because masterpieces and classics need to be known, period. You don't have to like or share your delight, but you know it's worth it. With its new visual setting, I think it will be pure pleasure. And veterans of the original will surely want to recall Tommy's story in this version.
