What is Moonlighter about?

The genres of roguelike and RPG enjoy some of the most loyal fanbases. Moonlighter is a title that managed to combine both of these genres. We play as Villa, a simpleton, an inhabitant of a small town focused mainly on trade, running his shop there. The city itself is famous for its unexplored dungeons, which only fuel the dreams of our protagonist – he wants to become a real hero, but to achieve this, he has a lot of work to do. Will wanders countless dungeons at night and sells whatever he finds there in his store during the day. In the meantime, he also learns the appropriate skills to venture deeper into the catacombs. Of course, the most important challenge for Will is the last, mysterious dungeon, but he won't be able to take him on such an escapade without getting some experience first.

Why is it worth playing?

Combining the features of a roguelike and an action RPG turned out to be fresh and, simply, brilliant. The game itself is divided into two parts – one of them is Will's night expeditions to the nearby dungeons, where he defeats hordes of enemies, pursuing his goal. During the day, running a shop is an important element of fun – we focus not only on selling items found at night, but also on expanding the premises and attracting new customers. This should already sound very convincing, and an additional advantage is the game's adamant inspiration of The Legend of Zelda. You can clearly see it.

Aleksandra Wolna

Has been writing articles for Gamepressure since March 2022 about both games and movies. On a daily basis, she deals with creating storylines for games, so she knows the industry inside out. She's been playing since she was little; she usually chooses JRPGs or indie games, although she also has a huge weakness for 3D platformers. Feels most comfortable when writing, so she considers the combination of creating texts with a passion for games a natural sequence of events. Privately, she collects Tamagotchi and takes care of her small, cat family. She happily shares her favorite games, cat photos, and other various things on Instagram.
