What's Demon's Souls Remake about?

It's difficult not to recognize the cult Dark Souls series at least by reputation, even if it's far from the games we play ourselves in our spare time. After all, Soulslike is a very specific genre, enjoying both a large group of fans and opponents. Demon's Souls shares name with Dark Souls and it is the game that seeded this series. The game, which debuted 13 years ago, was modernized in 2020 and released in a version for newer devices – and this is the edition you can find in the PS Plus offer.

In Demon's Souls, we travel through a gloomy and unfriendly land called Boletaria. The ruler here freed the ancient deity who almost wiped the region from the face of the earth years ago. As you can guess, our task is to become as powerful as possible while visiting five regions available in the game, and finally restore balance to the world. To this end, we must overcome the demons standing in our way and claim their souls.

Why is it worth playing?

If you like soulslikes, Demon's Souls is the game that started it all, so you might consider it a duty to get to know the ancestor of this genre. And if you've never played any of the FromSoftware titles or any of the games that came after them, this remake is a good place to start.

Typically for soulslike, this production is characterized by a high level of difficulty – the player must efficiently combine dexterity with strategic thinking and systematic procedures. The revamped Demon's Souls, due to the age of the original version, is relatively clear in terms of mechanics, stats, improvements and a whole host of various collectibles, which makes it quite accessible despite difficulty. It's also worth noticing that on the occasion of the remake, the entire graphics were refreshed and prepared from scratch, so the game doesn't stick out from modern titles in visual terms.
