The Best Obscure RPGs - 2022 Update

There's plenty of good RPG releases every week. Unfortunately, many of them do not get the popularity they deserve. Today, we are looking into games that some fans of the genre might have missed, and definitely should play.

Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark - a worthy continuation of the Final Fantasy Tactics tradition

FELL SEAL AT A GLANCE

  1. Developer: 6 Eyes Studio
  2. Platforms: PC, PS4, XONE, Switch
  3. PC release date: April 30, 2019
  4. 4,761 reviews on Steam

Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark is also a tactical RPG, but completely different from Broken Lines mentioned above. 6 Eyes Studio wanted to create a game referring to the best traditions of Final Fantasy Tactics and this task was successfully accomplished.

The authors invested a lot of effort into coming up with an interesting plot. It's complex, with an intriguing world and psychologically convincing characters. The scenario focuses on an arbiter who serves immortal beings, and discovers that her own order has begun to devour evil. Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark shows a story worthy of a good fantasy book, and the desire to learn the fate of the characters turns out to be as strong a motivation to play as gameplay.

The mechanics are based on the foundations of Japanese classics. We get a very extensive turn-based combat system, in which characters can belong to over 30 classes and use more than 300 skills. Players have a lot of freedom in shaping the development of their subordinates, and the gameplay is very flexible, thanks to which we can be successful in many different ways.

Fell Seal: The Arbiter's Mark is not revolutionizing the genre. Instead, the authors provided a refined and extensive production that effectively recreates all the best ingredients in Japanese tactical RPGs. For fans of this category, it is a must-play, and thanks to a more realistic lines and a more serious atmosphere, the project may also appeal to people who are customarily rejected by the manga style.

Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark is the game for you if:

  1. you like Japanese tactical RPGs like Final Fantasy Tactics or Tactics Ogre;
  2. you are looking for a game with an extensive story campaign in the epic fantasy atmosphere;
  3. you want to see a hybrid of Japanese gameplay with Western style.
