The Best Obscure RPGs - 2022 Update

There's plenty of good RPG releases every week. Unfortunately, many of them do not get the popularity they deserve. Today, we are looking into games that some fans of the genre might have missed, and definitely should play.

Table of Contents

Tower of Time – a heir of Baldur

TOWER OF TIME IN A NUTSHELL:

  1. Developer: Event Horizon
  2. Platforms: PC, XONE, PS4, Switch
  3. Release date: May 18, 2017
  4. 1,933 reviews on Steam

Tower of Time from a Polish studio, Event Horizon, is also worth noting. The devs created a product for people who miss the classic RPGs from BioWare, including, in particular, the Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale series.

True, Pillars of Eternity II and Divinity: Original Sin II satisfied the needs of fans of old-school RPGs, but sooner or later, every fan will look for something new. And the Tower of Time will be the perfect choice then, especially since the authors have served a classic formula in a modern form. Instead of pre-rendered backgrounds, they use fully three-dimensional graphics, while at also maintaining the isometric perspective.

In Tower of Time we control a team that explores a buried tower, looking out for traps, developing heroes, and fighting, which happens conducted in real-time, with the possibility of temporarily slowing time, which allows you to securely give more complex orders. An interesting element is the magic system, which requires drawing specific characters to activate spells.

Tower of Time has a ton to offer to RPG fans. The game provides at least fifty hours of entertainment and offers a wide variety of challenges, enemies, and character development options. The authors have very effectively implemented proven ideas, adding some of their own solutions, such as, for example, the mechanics of gravitational manipulation. The end result is impressive and certainly deserves the best sales results.

Tower of Time is a game for you if:

  1. you miss Infinity Enginie games;
  2. you like real-time team battles;
  3. you are looking for an RPG that will combine classic mechanics with new ideas.
