In 2019, the iconic real-time strategy game Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings received a refreshed and improved version titled Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition.

Over the years, the development studios behind it have prepared a series of expansions, and the ninth of these is Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition - Chronicles: Alexander the Great described here. This DLC is the result of collaboration between the teams of CaptureAge, World's Edge, Forgotten Empires, Tantalus Media, and Wicked Witch.

New features in the add-on

As the title suggests, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition - Chronicles: Alexander the Great is dedicated to Alexander the Great, who is regarded as one of the greatest (if not the greatest) conquerors in human history.

Story campaign

A campaign was prepared in the expansion and it allows players to follow the adventures of the Macedonian leader, from his first victories, through triumphs in Persia and the expedition to South Asia, to the dramatic return. In addition to 16 scenarios dedicated to the Macedonians, we find two additional ones focused on the Thracians and Puru. The story, on the other hand, is conveyed through cutscenes that are executed in a style reminiscent of animated mosaics.

Civilizations, units, and technologies

Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition - Chronicles: Alexander the Great introduces three playable civilizations.
